In my last novel, I was writing about a man who was very trapped in his part, very closed down and repressed. As a result, he was very inactive, and it really kept the story from moving forward. In order to make this work, I had to give him a little bit of momentum, I had to make him care more about what he wanted. My mentor captured it best when he was helping me with the story. He said, "You can't bring back the dead."

Great examples, and your point is so important. What you DO with the conflict is what matters. Conflict on its own is only half of the equation.
